Best Trails for Spiritual Discovery & Pilgrimage from €339

Are you looking for a hiking holiday that feeds your mind, body and soul?

Take a breath and take a step on a pilgrim hike which brings you closer to your spiritual side with these specially selected trails in Spain and Ireland for you to explore.

The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is the most famous pilgrim path in the world. The remains, or relics, of St James, were transported by his followers to Spain and are said to be buried in Santiago de Compostela. Far from being a single trail it is a large network of ancient routes stretching across Europe and finishing at the tomb of St. James. Trace St. James’ pilgrimage on the most famous trail, the Camino Frances, which culminates at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain where you can celebrate your journey with other fellow pilgrims from across the globe.

Ireland too is famous for its pilgrim paths. On St Kevin’s Way you can follow the path of the saint that founded a medieval monastic settlement at the still and peaceful Glendalough. In Kerry you can relive the route taken by St Brendan the Navigator between Tralee and Dingle or visit the 5th century Christian site of Mám Éan in Connemara and the West of Ireland where St Patrick is said to have rested on his own pilgrim journey.

These carefully chosen hiking trails are perfect for those seeking to combine a spiritual adventure with great hiking.

Historic sites like Melrose and Dryburgh Abbeys, Iron Age hillforts and the Roman Dere Street adds layers of spiritual and historical depth. Crossing the Cheviot Hills, the trail brings a sense of solitude and contemplation. The journey culminates in a dramatic walk across the tidal sands to Holy Island (Lindisfarne), St Cuthbert’s final resting place and a revered Christian site. Our walking tour of the Beara Peninsula was magnificent, truly like you read about! The weather was wonderful, with only one day of rain. The logistics were orchestrated perfectly. Accommodations and meals were first rate. Our hosts were gracious, warm and welcoming. We used the car services of Aidan Dunbar, who was not only informative about local culture and history, but amazingly entertaining as well. We can’t say enough about our positive overall experience. We recommend Hillwalk Tours without reservation, they planned the perfect trip for us. Kae Doyle - IE Google Reviews

My daughter and I booked the Heart of Wicklow, Ireland 4 Day Tour. The tour was absolutely the best days of our trip to Ireland! We stayed at the fantastic Lynham's Hotel. They were so welcoming, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay extra special! The food in the pub downstairs was absolutely the best on our trip!! Molly, from Hillwalk Tours, was so helpful! She was prompt with answering our questions and getting back to our emails. She also went above and beyond to get information on travel to and from Dublin. We had all the information we needed and felt well prepared for our adventure. The packet included information on the history of our sites and the area we were seeing. We loved reading about it as we went. I have taken many tours in Ireland and Scotland and I would recommend this company hands down - in every way. Absolutely the best! Leah - US TripAdvisor

Hillwalks Tours was excelled for our August/September hike on the Kerry Way. we stayed at B&B's and one hotel. The hiking routes were easy to follow and the accommodations fairly nice, not luxury, but fine, all with wifi, self contained bathrooms, and excellent breakfasts. our luggage was moved from location to location without fail. We are told they will offer the option of higher level accommodations next season. We would highly recommend it. Bruce Marks - US Google Reviews
