Day 2 Tinahely - Iron Bridge
12.4 Miles / 20 Km 5-7 Hrs 550 MetresA gentle climb leads you out of the village to rejoin the Wicklow Way underneath Ballycumber Hill. After passing an ancient ringfort, the route skirts the tiny village of Moyne before heading into dense woodland around Ballygobban Mountain. A descent into the Ow River Valley brings you to Iron Bridge from where you will be transferred to your accommodation.
-
Day 3 Iron Bridge - Glendalough
18 Miles / 29 Km 7-10 Hrs 800 MetresYou will be transferred to Iron Bridge from where you climb towards the forested summit of Carrickashane Mountain. From the old military road, built after the Irish rebellion of 1798, the route leads through forests onto the shoulder of Slieve Maan before descending to the crossroads at Glenmalure. A gradual ascent through the forests above the valley of Glenmalure is followed by a short, steep climb to Lugduff Gap. You then descend into Glendalough along the Wicklow Way.
-
Day 4 Glenealo Valley and the Spinc
8.1 Miles / 13 Km 4-6 Hrs 550 MetresThis popular walk is not part of the Wicklow Way but it offers some of the most spectacular scenery in Wicklow. After a visit to the peaceful valley of Glendasan follow the Miners Road in Glendalough to the old ‘miner’s village’. An invigorating climb brings you to a bridge at the top of the valley from where hundreds of wooden steps lead to a ridge above the lake with spectacular views back towards Glendalough. Descend via the Poulanass Waterfall to the two lakes and the monastic village.
If you would like more of a challenge you can combine this hike with a loop walk over Trooperstown Hill which will add 12km and 390m of ascent (+ 3-5hrs).
-
Day 5 Glendalough - Enniskerry
16.2 or 18 Miles / 26 or 29 Km 7-10 Hrs 950/1250 MetresCross the Glenmacnass River from where you make your way up Paddock Hill and then down into Oldbridge. If the weather is good, take the opportunity to climb Scarr Mountain (641m) on the way. The route passes above iconic Lough Tay, the famous Guinness Lake and setting for many movies and TV series. From there you climb up to White Hill and around the bulk of Djouce mountain before descending past Powerscourt Waterfall into Crone Woods. A short transfer will bring you to your B&B.
