  • Day 1 Arrival in Anstruther

From your point of arrival, use the public transport information we provide to make the journey to Anstruther.

  • Day 2 Anstruther to Kingsbarns

    10 Miles / 16.5 Km 4-6 Hrs 170 Metres

Before you leave the popular tourist town of Anstruther this morning, the Fisheries museum is worth a visit. Continuing along the coast, you soon pass the famous Caves of Caipliem, used for worship in the ninth century by Christians and once home to The Hermit. Then you arrive in the quieter village of Crail shortly before Fife Ness, the most easterly point on the trail. Heading north, you pass some superb golf courses, none better than Kingsbarns itself.

  • Day 3 Kingsbarns to St Andrews

    8 Miles / 13 Km 4-5 Hrs 210 Metres

Returning to the beach, the trail now crosses some remote and quite rugged terrain before arriving at Royal St Andrews. Widely considered to be the birthplace of the game of golf, this busy little town is the place where Prince William and Kate Middleton went to university and it also boasts fantastic cathedral and castle ruins.

  • Day 4 Leuchars to Newport-on-Tay

    11.5 Miles / 18 Km 4-6 Hrs 120 Metres

Transfer to Leuchars in the morning. After passing the Royal Air Force Base, the trail follows quiet tracks and roads into Tentsmuir Forest. Look out for the Ice House in the middle of the forest. Fisherman once hauled ice all the way from Dundee to keep their fish fresh in this isolated, but safe location. Today, the ruins are home to nattering bats. Take the bus from Newport-on-Tay back to St Andrews after your hike.

  • Day 5 Departure from St Andrews

There are regular bus services from St Andrews to Edinburgh and onwards to Glasgow. Full details provided upon booking.
