Hauke Steinberg Hillwalk Tours

Hauke grew up in the north of Germany between the Baltic and the North Sea. His great love for Ireland made him decide to finish his Geography degree with a year at Trinity College in Dublin. That was in 1996 and Hauke seems to have forgotten to go home to Germany. After a few years in an engineering company he switched careers to show tourists the beauty of Ireland as a tour guide. At that time, he also trained as a National Trail Inspector, checking the quality of the walking routes our customers are walking on when they come to Ireland. Thanks Hauke! Hauke has been an avid hiker since his university days and he even helped to run an ‘After Office Walking Club’ at work. He has travelled all over the world and he has hiked on five continents.

All this seemed to have been the perfect preparation for Hauke to join the Hillwalk Tours team. As our Director of Route Development he uses his knowledge of hiking, tourism and our trails to make sure our existing and new tours are as good as they can be. He does this together with his teammates in the Route Development Team who walk the trails, check B&Bs, setup new tours, reply and react to customer feedback and who are always in contact with the people managing the trails on which our tours run.

If he is not out hiking the trails, you can often find Hauke in an Irish pub playing traditional music on the Irish flute, tin whistle or bodhrán (an Irish drum) – if you are lucky he might even sing a song for you! Another passion of Hauke’s is photography and he is an accomplished landscape and nature photographer.
