  • Day 1 Arrival in Tavira

    From your point of arrival, use the public transport information we provide to make the journey to Tavira.

  • Day 2 Tavira Island (Ilha de Tavira) - Tavira

    8 Miles / 13 Km 4-5 Hrs 300ft / 90 Metres

    A varied and rewarding coastal loop that blends beach, history, culture and wildlife. You start with a short ferry ride on the Gilão River from Tavira town to Ilha de Tavira, a barrier island known for its golden sands. From the ferry landing, follow the wide, peaceful beach westward, with the Atlantic stretching endlessly beside you. Pass the iconic Anchor Cemetery at Praia do Barril before you can take a narrow-gauge railway back across the lagoon to the mainland from where you walk along the lagoon of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Stop at the charming fishing village of Santa Luzia, famous for its octopus catch, and then follow quiet tracks and paths through saltpans and wetlands. Keep an eye out for flamingos and other birdlife as you make your way back to Tavira.

  • Day 3 Quinta do Marco - Tavira

    9.5 Miles / 15 Km 4-6 Hrs 1150ft / 350 Metres

    After a short transfer, this lovely walk takes you from the heart of the Algarve’s ‘Barrocal’ region, between the coast and the mountains. Hiking back to the coast at Tavira it offers a glimpse of the charming inland countryside. Wander along dark red gravel tracks that wind through rolling hills, past traditional ceramic workshops, endless orange & lemon groves, and quaint hamlets where friendly locals welcome you. This route is rich in rustic character and provides a striking contrast to our other walks around Tavira that stay close to the coast.

  • Day 4 Ludo Nature Trail

    7.5-9.5 Miles / 12-15 Km 3-5 Hrs 300ft / 90 Metres

    The Ludo Nature Trail is a great spot to introduce visitors to the stunning Ria Formosa Natural Park – a breathtaking lagoon that extends nearly 60 km along the Eastern Algarve coastline. This easy, short, and accessible trail offers a closer look at the rich biodiversity of the park, home to an abundance of birdlife, including flamingos, spoonbills, and many other species. The surrounding saltpans, a defining feature of the landscape, provide the perfect habitat for viewing these incredible creatures. We have also included an option to visit one of the beautiful nearby beaches. Transfers at the start and end of the hike.

  • Day 5 Senhora da Rocha - Praia do Vale de Centeanes (Seven Hanging Valleys Trail)

    6 Miles / 10 Km 3-4 Hrs 1020ft / 310 Metres

    Embark on an unforgettable hike and immerse yourself in the Algarve’s dramatic coastal beauty. This hike covers part of the renowned Seven Hanging Valleys Trail and showcases jaw-dropping cliffs, vibrant turquoise seas, and unique geological formations.

    Starting at Senhora da Rocha, with its clifftop chapel overlooking the sea, after a morning transfer, the hike leads you along rugged paths and serene viewpoints. Along the way, you’ll encounter secluded beaches and stunning limestone formations, offering panoramic vistas of the Atlantic Ocean. The route winds through picturesque headlands and valleys, culminating at Praia do Vale de Centeanes, a beautiful sandy beach surrounded by imposing cliffs. From there transfer to your accommodation.

  • Day 6 Praia do Vale de Centeanes - Ferragudo

    7 Miles / 11.5 Km 4-5 Hrs 1210ft / 370 Metres

    This inspiring hike blends rugged cliffs, picturesque beaches, and authentic local charm as you venture eastward along the coast. Starting from the beautiful beach at Praia do Vale de Centeanes, after a short transfer, you follow trails that hug the dramatic limestone cliffs, offering sweeping views of the Atlantic. Pass above tranquil coves and sandy stretches, each more beautiful than the last. Along the way, take in the Algarve’s unique rock formations and thriving natural habitats. 

    Make a stop at Torre da Lapa, a historic watchtower that once served as a sentinel against coastal threats, and as you approach Ferragudo, you’ll encounter the iconic Ferragudo Castle, a majestic structure overlooking the Arade River. Originally built for defense, the castle is now a hallmark of local heritage and provides a striking backdrop as you end your hike. Ferragudo itself captivates with its charming whitewashed houses and vibrant riverside cafés, creating a perfect culmination for your coastal adventure. From there, you are transferred to your accommodation.

  • Day 7 Alvor Boardwalks & Alvor - Portimão

    7.5 Miles / 12 Km 3-4 Hrs 520ft / 160 Metres

    A lovely day along the coast, offering stunning ocean views, golden cliffs and picturesque beaches, with plenty of opportunity to enjoy a coffee and a traditional ‘pastel de nata’. Starting at the Alvor Estuary, after a short transfer, you follow a network of wooden walkways that stretch across the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve. Connecting sandy beaches, dunes, and wetlands that are a haven for birdwatchers and home to a variety of bird species, including flamingos, herons, and ospreys. 

    From there continue along some beautiful beaches and admire dramatic rock formations and secluded coves before you reach the small villages of Vau and Castelos. You now follow the bustling beach at Praia da Rocha, where you can enjoy the beach atmosphere from one of the many cafes and restaurants as you stroll along the boardwalk. Finally, climb up from the beach and into Portimão, finishing with incredible views from the Santa Catarina fort.

  • Day 8 Depart Portimão

    There are frequent bus connections from Portimão to Faro. Alternatively, it is possible to get a taxi transfer from Portimão direct to Faro Airport. Please consult with your host or the reception staff at your accommodation for further information for onward travel.
