POSTED BY October 22, 2017

The Rob Roy Way is a long-distance walking route in Scotland. It was established in 2002 and stretches from Drymen to Pitlochry. It was named after the famous and well-liked Scottish outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor. He was commonly known as the Robin Hood of Scotland. The Rob Roy Way follows many of the same tracks and paths that Rob Roy used during his cattle-droving days. In this post, we look at some of the best Rob Roy Way attractions.

The Rob Roy Story, Kentmore Antiques Shop – Callander

Find out more about the man that the trail is named after by visiting Kenmore Antiques Shop in Callander.

The Rob Roy exhibition was moved to Lady Kentmores following the closure of the Rob Roy and Trossachs visitor centre.

It now houses a 20-minute presentation which details the life of Rob Roy MacGregor.

You will also gain an insight into why the surrounding area is known as Rob Roy’s territory.

The Scottish Crannog Centre – Kenmore

Crannogs are believed to have been used as a defensive mechanism to keep an eye out for attackers.

They are timber dwellings which are perched above water, giving good protection from any unwanted visitors trying to gain entry.

It is likely that these buildings belonged to wealthy people who wished to keep their homes safe.

Take a guided tour of the crannog centre and learn how the communities lived here almost 5,000 years ago.

Self-guided exhibitions and detailed displays help you to understand the daily routines of the people that lived here.
